Junior Sail Training

The SGBA organises and co-organises two junior sailing courses a year. The SGBA Junior Sailing Course for children aged 8-11 and DRYSA for children 11-16 years.

SGBA Junior Sailing Course

The Junior Sailing Course is a week of dinghy sail training for children aged 8-11 years at Mill Point, Stoke Gabriel. It is organised by and for members of the SGBA, usually in the late May school half term holidays.

The course is designed to be fun. Children are encouraged to work towards their RYA Level 1 and RYA Level 2 dinghy sailing certificates, which can awarded at the end of the course.

All the instructors on the course are RYA trained and accredited Dinghy Instructors or Assistant Instructors. It is anticipated that parents will volunteer to help make the course a success, as Assistant Instructors, rescue boat crew or shore based helpers.

Places on the course are usually allocated in early spring and the course is always heavily oversubscribed, so please register your interest early with the Junior Sailing Course Principal, Kim Connabeer.

DRYSA - Dart River Young Sailors Association

DRYSA Week, usually in the first or second week of the school summer holidays, is the next step for those who have graduated from the SGBA Junior Sailing Course. It is a dinghy sailing course for children aged 11-16 years.

DRYSA is organised jointly by all the River Dart sailing clubs, including the SGBA. The clubs take it in turn to organise the week and thus the location of DRYSA week changes every year.

Again, this course is always heavily oversubscribed so register your interest early with the SGBA's DRYSA representative Chris Caseldine.

Adult sail training Train as an Dinghy Instructor

Informal adult sailing training is offered on a one-to-one or small group basis by two SGBA members.

Junior sailing courses need qualified RYA instructors. If you are an experienced sailor and would like to train as an Assistant Instructor or Instructor, contact the SGBA's RYA Course Principal, Kim Connabeer.

Powerboat training Join the SGBA

Junior sailing courses need volunteers to drive the rescue boats. You will need powerboat training for this role.

Joining the SGBA is a brilliant way of getting on the water.  You need to be a member to access the junior sailing courses.
