Adult Sail Training

In July 2010, the SGBA organised its first adult dinghy training course. If you are interested in joining future courses, contact  Barry Jobson.

Alternative sailing courses include one-to-one or small group courses by SGBA instructors, or courses run by other sailing clubs:

  • Bones (Trevor Black), Tel: 07980 436451
Bones offers one-to-one or small group tuition for sailors of every level, complete novices to experienced sailors who want race training. Bones also offers powerboat training.
  • Sue Mortimer, Tel: 01803 782678
Sue offers one-to-one and one-to-two dinghy instruction using SGBA boats. Sue is available to teach during school hours and specialises in getting women on the water for the first time and building their confidence sailing.

  • Paignton Sailing Club, Tel: 01803 525817
Paignton Sailing Club runs adult sail training courses, usually on a Friday evening, with start dates throughout the year.
  • Royal Dart Yacht Club, Tel: 01803 782496
The RDYC hosts Ladies Afloat on Thursdays during the summer months, although not strictly a training course,  participants can undertake RYA dinghy qualifications. As the name suggests it is for ladies only, and participants also need to be RDYC members.
  • Brixham Sea School, Tel: 01803 882644
Yacht and shore based RYA accredited sail training in Brixham.

Informal support from other members can get novice sailors back on the water at Sunday Sailings.
