Using SGBA sailing dinghies
The following sailing dinghies are owned by the SGBA and clearly marked with a sticker saying "Owned by the SGBA", all are stored in the quarry near the Boat House at Mill Point. They are available for use by members and their accompanied children.
- 6 Laser Picos sailing dinghies
- 7 Toppers sailing dinghies
- 6 Laser Bugs sailing dinghies
- Laser sailing dinghy
- Wanderer family sailing dinghy
These boats may only be used by members who have paid the £20 annual fee, subject to the following conditions:
1) Buoyancy aids must be worn at all times whilst using SGBA craft.
2) Adult members of the club (those over 16 years) may use the sailing dinghies without being accompanied by a rescue boat.
3) Junior members (under 16 years) may:
a) Use one club dinghy provided their parents or guardians are in attendance in the Rescue Boat or other suitable craft. This craft should be of a type that, in the event of a capsize or other mishap, would enable the junior member to be retrieved from the water and the dinghy towed back to shore.
b) Use two or more club dinghies as long as an SGBA rescue boat, with at least two adults on board, accompanies them and there is an accredited helmsman in charge.
4) The normal sailing area for the dinghies is from Duncannon and /or Tuckenhay to the Anchor Stone. Exceptionally, an extension to this area may be agreed with the booking officer.
5) No charge is made currently for the sailing dinghies, but a contribution towards their up keep would be appreciated. This can be left at the River Shack in an envelope.
6) Any breakages or missing or defective gear on the sailing dinghies or canoes should be reported to the Bosun (Tim Sunderland).
7) If you use a club dinghy please ensure that when you return it you securely attach to either the standing chain or the rail (Pico’s) using either the supplied lock or the boat's painter. This will ensure that the boats will not be damaged or lost during high spring tides. Thank you.
