Picnic Boat 2 'Dolphin' Instructions
Note: Dolphin is not as stable as the Dory ‘Y Knot’
- Enter ground floor of club house and locate fuel locker key on the board left of door.
- Take SGBA Fuel Key
- Open steel fuel locker outside (marked SGBA 2ST)
- Take out portable outboard fuel tank labelled Dolphin Check fuel and top up if necessary from red 10lt container in the same locker.
- Collect paddle if one not in the boat (in case the engine packs up on you!) stored by the life jackets in main store.
- Carry fuel tank down to boat, a white dory called 'Dolphin' which is on the right side of the pontoon, berth number 4.
- The key tied to the fuel tank will undo the boat padlock- not currently locked.
- Connect fuel tank and fit kill cord, pump the bulb on the fuel tank until it goes hard – Don’t keep pumping as you will flood the engine.
- Release the tilt lever and lower engine into water. Tilt lever is positioned low down on the left side of the engine by the transom, fit the kill chord.
- There is no key so to start simply pull out the choke, pull the throttle lever out to disengage the gearbox and push it to half way forwards. Pull the starting chord until the engine starts (usually 2-3 pulls does it) once started slowly push in the choke and bring the engine revs down with the throttle lever, let it tick over to warm up for a couple of minutes.
- Ensure there is water squirting from below the engine casing at the back, if not stop the engine immediately as failure to do so will overheat the engine.
- Ensure you know how to stop the engine using the red stop button.
- To stop the engine pull off the kill chord.
At the end of your trip
- Turn the wheel to full lock, tilt the engine back up using the tilt lever - It will only tilt on full lock.
- Please make sure boat is padlocked back to the chain and the bow and stern ropes secured - Not currently locked
- Remove all rubbish from the boat and wipe off any mud. Leave the boat clean as it costs the Club to get them cleaned.
- Replace fuel tank in SGBA Fuel Locker with fuel pipe and kill chord attached to tank.
- Put your donation to cover the running costs and fuel in an envelope though the door of the Bosun – 1 River View, blue stable door. £10 for use between Duncannon and Pig Point £20 for longer trip to Dartmouth or Totnes. (Straight run to Malsters and back is the cheaper price)
SAFETY NOTE: THE MAXIMUM PERSONS = 2 ADULTS, 2 CHILDREN
Report any issues to the Bosun immediately. |
