Motor boats
The SGBA has two picnic motor boats that can be used by members who have paid the additional fee for using SGBA boats and who make a small fuel cost donation:
Picnic Boat 1 'Y Knot'
Picnic boat 1 is a white Dory called 'Y Knot' moored at the end of the creek pontoon. It is suitable for any member who has had briefing on its use by the Quartermaster.
Picnic Boat 2 'Dolphin'
Picnic boat 2 is a smaller white dory-type boat called 'Dolphin' also moored at the end of the creek pontoon. It is suitable for any member who has had briefing on its use by the Quartermaster.
Use of the picnic boats is subject to the following conditions:
- Picnic boats can only be used by those members who have paid the additional SGBA Boat Users charge with their annual membership.
- The picnic boats must be booked out online and the relevant donation (£10 or £20 as appropriate, see below) paid immediately after use.
- To make the booking you must be registered on the website (click on the "register" link).
- Prior to their first use of the picnic boats members should receive a briefing on its operation. That person is then recognised as an accredited helmsman. This can be arranged with the Quartermaster.
- Buoyancy aids must be worn at all times whilst using SGBA craft, you can borrow these from the Club House store room.
- The normal area limit for use of the motor boats is Totnes to Dartmouth.
- Any breakages or defects on the motor boats should be reported to the Quartermaster as soon as possible.
- The suggested donation for the picnic boats is £10 per session between Pighole Point and Duncannon and £20 for a session further afield. No boat should be taken beyond Dartmouth. Payment should be placed in a named envelope and posted or handed to the River Shack.
Use of motor boats is FREE to:
■base a motor boat at Mill Point for use as a rescue boat
■tow sailing boats for club racing
For all questions relating to the boats please contact the Quartermaster.
Please note: The Rescue Boat is no longer available for members use.
The Rescue Boat, an orange Rigiflex motor boat moored next to the picnic boats at the end of the pontoon, is only for use as a rescue boat during official SGBA events. The rescue boat is only to be used by members holding the RYA Powerboat 2 qualification or relevant experience who are undertaking SGBA event rescue boat duties. All rescue boat helms need to be approved by the Quartermaster.
